In just three easy steps, you can convert video files from one format to another – that is, in a nutshell, the functionality you can expect to get from HandBrake. So if you need a free and open source video transcoder, you’re very well advised to get HandBrake.

Speaking about getting HandBrake, it must be mentioned that the application is available for multiple platforms. HandBrake can be used on a computer powered by Microsoft’s Windows operating system (any edition from XP onward), on a computer powered by Apple’s Mac OS X, or on a computer powered by Linux.

A quick look at the interface and you will quickly figure things out. Or to put it in other words, HandBrake’s interface is so simple that you will immediately get the hang of it.

As previously mentioned, you can convert videos with HandBrake in just three simple steps:
Step 1 – load one or multiple videos (use the Open File or the Open Folder options).
Step 2 – set up the conversion parameters (pick a built-in device preset, pick the output location, select filters, add subtitles, add audio track, and more).
Step 3 – launch the conversion process and wait for it to complete.

HandBrake is free and open source software released under a GNU General Public License (GPL). This means that you can use it for as long as you want and not have to part with your hard earned money.

HandBrake makes it quite easy to convert video files from one format to another!

Pros

HandBrake is available for multiple platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux. HandBrake is free and open source software released under a GNU GPL. Converting videos from one format to another is a simple 3-step process: load a video, set up the conversion parameters, wait for the conversion to complete. There’s a handy video preview function.

Cons

None that I could think of.
